Excellent Computer for a University Student
If you think you can fill up the massive harddrive on this thing, then you probably shouldn't even be buying a laptop because there is plenty of space. I have over 10,000 songs stored on the harddrive, not to mention pictures, a few movies, games, and all of my documents from school and work and I still have plenty of memory. I don't think I'll every be able to fill the harddrive.
The size of the laptop is perfect. I didn't want an itty-bitty 13 incher or a netbook and I knew that a 15 inch screen would be too much. This model has a big enough keyboard for you to type comfortably and is still compact enough to carry around easily.

Comments: I love this laptop, it is by far the nicest laptop that I have used. It is very comfortable to use, and has a lot of nice programs already installed.
It comes with adobe Photoshop elements 8 and adobe premiere elements. I also really like that it comes with Stardock MyColors, it includes windows blinds and icon packager. Fences Pro is also another useful program that the laptop comes with already installed.
The laptop is on the heavy side, which I personally don't have a problem with because of the solid build feel that it has. The rubbery material around the keyboard is very comfortable to the wrists. The rubbery bottom of the laptop is also very nice on the lap, and the device does not get too warm.
Sound quality is great FOR A LAPTOP. Not much sound quality can really be expected from a laptop, but this device sounds better than most other laptops I have used.

Pros: I had my envy custom built from HP for 1700. The HP Envy 14 has very good specs for the price. Screen is very nice, and the overall look and feel of the laptop is solid. The audio port is very nice. You hear very little, if any electrical noise from the port. With cheap laptops you can hear lots of electrical noise when wearing headphones. Cons: About 2 months after purchasing the laptop, the motherboard fried. It was underwarenty and HP payed to have the laptop shipped to them for repair. About 4 weeks later it came back from repair. After checking over the system, I noticed they put in the incorrect amount of ram, and gave me the wrong power adapter. I called hp, and they said I had to send it back for repair again. I sent the laptop back with a written note explaining exactly what was wrong. A few weeks later it came back with the amount of ram correct, but with the wrong power adapter again. It also now has a scratch on the back side aluminum from a tech guy who bumped it with somthing. I called support and had to explain that the power adapter was not the correct one for the HP envy. They gave me a 65w and the Envy requires a 90w adapter. They did send me a new one free of charge eventually.

Overall Review: The specs on HP's computers are decent for the price, however they don't use very high quality components in their laptops or desktops. I knew this of their desktops before purchasing the envy, which I bought based on high reviews from several reputable websites. HP's support is not very good. I didn't complain about the scratch that the techs left on the aluminum, but I find it annoying sense I paid 1700 for the computer. The keyboard is also not very solid on the left side, and makes a weird noise when typing. I can fix it by placing some thermal tape under the keyboard, but I shouldn't have to with a laptop that cost this much.

Pros: The laptop itself, as it should run is a great laptop. It's very quick, and if you play PC games it runs WoW and RIFT with very playable FPS. You won't find another Windows PC this sleak with hardware and portability this good. I had no issues with software, or anything that could have been prevented on HP's behalf, but SEE BELOW!

Cons: Any HP Envy released prior to January 31, 2011 comes with a FAULTY INTEL CHIPSET! The problem is announced on Intel's website, and there is no fix other than hardware replacement. While HP and Intel are working together to handle the issue, NewEgg is still in the dark. I spoke with several NewEgg representatives and none of them claimed to know of the issue.
The Intel chipset on these models cases slow or rapid SATA, and DVDR connector degradation. What does this mean? The laptop will be nearly unusable. Frequent lag, HDD failure, it's horrible. This is the only issue I had, and while it is a bad one, NewEgg is sending me a new Envy. I would still recommend the product to someone else, and Intel has stopped producing the chipset with this problem.

Overall Review: Be weary of buying this laptop. It's definitely worth it if you can chance getting a good one, or are willing to deal wiht a bad one until they send a new one.
